Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal information the Tiljala SHED website (tished.org) collects, why, how we keep it safe and what you can ask us to do with it. We follow India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. We collect as little as we can, and we never sell or share your information for marketing.

Who we are

What we collect, and why

We only collect what you choose to send us, for the purpose you send it for:

• Contact form: your name, email address, phone number if you give it, and your message. We use them only to reply to you.
• Volunteer form: your name, email address, phone number if you give it, country, the dates you could come, your skills and your message. We use them only to arrange volunteering with you.
• Newsletter: your email address. We email you a link to confirm first, and only send the newsletter once you have clicked it. You can unsubscribe at any time.

To keep the forms free of spam, we also check how quickly a form was filled in and limit how many messages can be sent from one connection. We do not keep a record of your IP address with your message.

Donations

Donations are made through our giving partners: Give India for donors in India, and GlobalGiving for donors abroad. Your payment and tax receipt details are collected by them, under their own privacy policies. We receive the information we need to thank you and to keep proper accounts, as the law requires.

Who sees your information

Only Tiljala SHED staff who need it to reply to you or to run the program you asked about. It is stored on our website's server (our hosting provider) and in our email. We do not sell, rent or trade it, and we do not share it with anyone else unless the law requires us to.

How long we keep it

We keep form messages for as long as we need them to deal with your request, and for no more than three years. Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. You can ask us to delete your information sooner.

Cookies and other websites

The website uses only two small cookies that it needs to work, and no tracking, advertising or analytics. See our cookie policy. Videos from YouTube and Vimeo only load when you press play; those sites then follow their own privacy policies.

Children

Our website is not meant for children to send us their information. The stories of the people we work with are shared only with their signed consent, and a child's name, location and images are protected, as set out in our child safeguarding policy.

Your rights

Under India's data protection law you can ask us to:

• tell you what personal information we hold about you and how we use it,
• correct it or bring it up to date,
• delete it,
• stop sending you the newsletter, and
• name someone to act for you if you are unable to.

Write to contact@tished.org. We will reply within 30 days. If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we use personal information, we will update this page and the date it was last updated.
